International Yoga Day celebrated at WeSchool

to give a message of peace, harmony and development of inner strengths for a balanced work-life through the ancient Indian  science

Welingkar Institute of Management and Research (WeSchool) took the lead once again by celebrating   International Yoga Day with its students, faculty and staff members at the Mumbai campus. The WeTeam got together under the leadership of Prof Dr Uday Salunkhe, Group Director on the bright morning to relive the moments of inner peace and harmony. With PM Modi taking center-stage by leading more than 30,000 participants at Rajpath last year, International Yoga Day has become a mega-event that’s celebrated across the globe. The young teachers from Yoga Sadhana Kendra (YSK)  familiarized all participants from WeSchool  in the finer aspects of the ancient Indian philosophy as they guided them through the various Asanas and Breathing techniques during the one hour session.

Apart from having a well-equipped Gym in its basement, WeSchool has also set aside a large hall called ‘Nirvana’ and appointed professionally trained teachers from the Kendra  to encourage its MBA students, faculty and staff to make Yoga a part of their lifestyle, for developing a balanced mind, body and soul. Yoga has thus become an integral part of WeSchool’s teaching-learning environment for the last 16 years.

Prof Dr Uday Salunkhe, Group Director WeSchool, fitness, sports and adventure enthusiast and a Yoga practitioner himself said,” The benefits of yoga are different for each individual. With exercise, meditation, relaxations, recovering from injuries are some of them, Yoga really helps the MBA students in decluttering the mind, find inner focus and stay centered on life goals and priorities in their fast paced and stressful lives. It helps our Global Citizen leaders to handle the lows as well as highs in this extremely competitive world that is full of ambiguities. Yoga is an excellent tool to learn to create a fine balance between work and life, through discipline, commitment and patience and keep moving towards one’s goals.”

It is seen that Corporates that offer yoga and wellness program to their employees not only have a healthy, energetic and more productive workforce that results in lesser turnover of manpower and better customer service. They are   also able also reduce their annual health insurance premiums and expenses towards medical bills of employees thereby contributing to an improved bottom line. With millions of people discovering the benefits of Yoga which include fitness and physical well-being but more importantly, inner peace and mental balance; B schools across the globe are also appreciating the value of Yoga in the stressful lives of their young MBA students. Harvard Business School, Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management, University of Chicago’s Graduate School of Business and even MIT’s Sloan School of Management are strong advocates of Yoga with Yoga Clubs and classes offering stretching, exercises, meditation, and stress relief for the high-pressure MBAs.
