Welingkar, Bengaluru bags the ‘Best Industry-linked Management Institute’ at India -UK Tech Summit-2016

Welingkar Institute of Management Development and Research , Bangalore bagged the AICTE-CII  Award for the ‘Best Industry Linked Emerging Management Institute’ on the second day of  India -UK Tech Summit held in the capital.

Dr Anil Rao, Dean Welingkar Institute of Management Development and Research, Bengalore along with his faculty coleagues Dr Madhavi Lokhande  and Dr Sonia Mehrotra was present at the venue to receive the award.

Giving away the awards, Dr Anil Sahasrabuddhe-Chairman- AICTE, Shri Kris Gopalakrishnan-Co founder Infosys, Dr YS Rajan – Professor ISRO, Pradyumna Das- director, NID and  Mrs. Sushma Paul BerliaPresident and Co -founder Apeejay Stya University. All the legendary panelists were unanimous on the need to strengthen the  entrepreneurial ecosystem, promote innovation on all turfs, enhance research and above all an effective industry and academia connect. Dr Anil Sahasrabuddhe emphasized the need of mutual cooperation between the two along with an integrated solution approach.

They emphatically stressed the need to bring about the conversation between the industry and academia. As of now there is little knowledge on IPR. That also needs to be further enhanced, said the AICTE chairman.

Dr Rao, expressing his sentiments while receiving the  honour said, “modern times not only demand for rapid upgradation at all fronts, keeping pace  with the unfolding developments but also   responding to the demands of an everchanging ecosystem. And this can happen effectively when academia works in tandem with industry. And we are happy that  we have faring well on that front. And the industry aacknolwedges  that.”

The Summit that had its inaugural on 7 November witnessed   Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the visiting UK Prime Minister Theresa May addressing the audience that included experts from diverse domains. The various turfs that shared their expertise included bureurcrats, industry and the academia. Dr Harsh Vardhan, Minister for Science and Technology and Earth Sciences also addressed the august gathering during the inaugural session of the Summit.

The  Summit discussed the  various issues and challenges of modern times and the  way ahead. It brought together the best of the science and technology with the knowledge industries from botrh the countries. Both the countries are known for setting up high benchmarks in education, scientific research and innovation.

At the core of the Summit was the desire to connect and streamline the scientific knowledge creation with business enterprises to bring a holistic, expansive and inclusive impact.
